On June 22, Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) plans to open the San Francisco International Airport (SFO) extension for revenue service.
The 8.7-mile extension will connect BART’s system with the airport. The $1.5 billion project includes new stations in South San Francisco, San Bruno, and Millbrae, Calif., and at the airport.
Ridership on the SFO line is expected to reach 70,000 a day by 2010.
"This project is vital to the economic and environmental vitality of the Bay Area," said House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi in a prepared statement. "It will move us toward our goals of reducing traffic congestion, promoting commerce, encouraging the use of mass transit and making our communities more livable."
