Baseball, hotdogs, apple pie … and trains?

In an effort to keep momentum going following a successful recent four-day safety blitz, Peninsula Corridor Joint Powers Board (Caltrain) officials are taking the rail-safety message to the park — Pacific Bell Park, that is.
Caltrain is sponsoring the San Francisco Giants’ July 18 game, handing out wooden train whistles to the team’s first 20,000 fans. Banners will be placed at entrance gates cautioning "Don’t get caught in a rundown. Tracks are for trains."
Caltrain Vice Chair Mike Nevin will speak briefly from homeplate about safety prior to the game, then head for the pitcher’s mound to throw out the ceremonial first pitch on Caltrain Rail Safety Day. The Giants also plan to show a short rail safety video on the park’s scoreboard.
"We will use any means available and necessary to make sure that people know how to be safe around trains and train tracks," said Nevin in a prepared statement.
