Super Bowl 50 led to record ridership levels for San Francisco Bay Area transit systems.

Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART), for example, carried 419,162 riders on Saturday, exceeding the previous weekend ridership record by 100,000, agency officials said in an emailed announcement.

Additionally, BART trains carried 528,679 passengers on Friday, marking the agency's third-busiest day in its 44-year history.

BART's trains maintained an on-time performance of at least 95 percent during Super Bowl week, agency officials added.

Today, the agency is running long trains to the San Francisco International Airport to accommodate what's expected to be a heavy air-travel day.

Meanwhile, Caltrain on Saturday provided more than 15,000 trips between events in San Francisco and Santa Clara. The number surpassed the commuter railroad's record for Saturday ridership, Caltrain officials said in a press release.

To accommodate increased demand, Caltrain added 13 trains to its regular schedule on Saturday.

Yesterday, the railroad provided almost 5,000 pre-game trips to the station in Mountain View, Calif., Caltrain officials said.

For its part, the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) yesterday logged 9,500 trips to Levi's Stadium on the agency's light-rail trains and buses. About 60 percent of light-rail passengers transferred from Caltrain coming from San Francisco.
