Bombardier Transportation recently won a $425 million order from Transport for London to supply 152 Electrostar electric multiple-unit cars and service the railroad’s cars for 7.5 years. The contract includes an option to supply up to 196 additional cars.

Transport for London will use the electric cars — which can reach speeds up to 100 mph and are designed for suburban rail operations — on the East London Line and North London Railway.

Bombardier will build the cars at its Derby, Great Britain, plant and service cars at its East London maintenance facility. The company will begin delivering the cars in July 2008 and fill the order by May 2009.
