Govia, a U.K.-based holding company, March 11 ordered an additional 460 Electrostar electric cars from Bombardier Transportation for $1 billion. The cars would replace slam-door trains on key South Central routes.
The contract includes a 20-year material supply and technical support agreement for Govia’s 700-car Electrostar fleet. In September 2001, Govia ordered an initial 240 units for $283 million.
Bombardier plans to manufacture the cars at its Derby facility and begin deliveries in summer.
