Bombardier Transportation recently landed deals in Turkey and the United Kingdom totaling $376 million.

Bombardier and its partner, engineering group Tapi Merkezi of Turkey, June 20 were awarded a contract by the Eskisehir Greater City Municipality to design, supply and install a 8.8-mile light-rail transit system, including one year of operations and maintenance support for Eskisehir, Turkey.

Bombardier’s share of the $121 million project is valued at $76 million. Service is scheduled to begin in early 2004.

Meanwhile, Bombardier also landed a $498 million deal from United Kingdom train operator Connex South Eastern to manufacture 228 additional class 375 Electrostar electric cars. This order complements a previous order for 210 cars currently entering service, and includes a 30-year maintenance agreement valued at $273 million.

Maintenance work would be completed by South East Trains Maintenance Ltd., a joint venture between Bombardier and Connex.

Finally, Bombardier June 25 landed another U.K. contract, this one for heavy maintenance and refurbishment of 75 passenger coaches operated by Chiltern Railways.

The contract’s total value is about $21 million. Deliveries are scheduled to take place between September 2002 and December 2004.
