The Greater Toronto Transit Authority (GO Transit) continues to solicit products and services from Bombardier Transportation. The agency recently awarded a five-year, $140 million contract to Bombardier to provide fleet operations services for GO Transit’s commuter-rail system.

Beginning in June 2008, Bombardier will be responsible for train operations and train crew management for six of GO Transit’s seven commuter-rail lines. Bombardier plans to recruit more than 100 train operators and several supervisors.

The contract includes options that would extend the management services contract up to 15 years. If all options are exercised, the contract could total up to $519 million.

Bombardier has supplied more than 400 bi-level commuter-rail cars to GO Transit, and has been providing rail-car and locomotive maintenance services to the agency for more than a decade.
