British Columbia officials last week announced two firms have advanced to the request for proposals (RFP) stage of the Surrey Langley SkyTrain project.
The selected firms are South Fraser Station partners, which consists of Aecon Infrastructure Management Inc., Acciona Infrastructure Canada Inc., Pomerleau BC Inc. and AECOM Canada Ltd.; and SkyLink stations partners, which consists of Dragados Canada Inc., Ledcor Construction Investments Ltd., SYSTRA International Bridge Technologies Inc. and IBI Group Architects (Canada) Inc.
The two firms will submit proposals on the design and build of eight stations, as well as cycling and walking paths around those stations, provincial officials said in a press release. The chosen firm is expected to be announced in early 2024, with construction to begin later that year.
The Surrey Langley SkyTrain project is a nearly 10-mile extension of the Expo Line from King George Station to Langley City Center, the first rapid transit expansion south of the Fraser River in 30 years. When completed, the extension will serve riders in Surrey, Langley and Vancouver.
The project will be delivered through three separate contracts. The RFP for the first contract, which includes the elevated guideway, roadworks and utilities and active transportation paths along the extension, was issued to two shortlisted firms in January. That contract is expected to be awarded later this year.
The third contract is for the design and installation of SkyTrain trackwork and the design, installation and integration of electrical systems. That contract is in the request for qualifications stage and will advance to the RFP stage later this year.
