CAF opens assembly plant in Sacramento
advertisement
Spanish passenger rail car manufacturer Construcciones y Auxiliar de Ferrorcarriles (CAF) in partnership with Sacramento Regional Transit District (RT) May 30 hosted an open house at CAF’s new plant in Sacramento, Calif.
The facility, with more than 50,000 square feet of surface area, will house component assembly, vehicle final assembly and testing, and assembly quality assurance. CAF officials plan to ramp up production during 2002 — beginning with final assembly of 40 light rail vehicles (LRVs) being manufactured for RT.
CAF USA Inc. currently is completing contracts with three U.S. transit agencies: 192 LRVs for Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority awarded in 1998; 40 LRVs for RT awarded in 1999; and 28 LRVs and rehabilitation of 55 cars for Port Allegheny Authority County in Pittsburgh awarded in 2000.
