CH2M lands contract to rehab Trinity Railway Express bridge in Dallas
Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) has awarded CH2M an engineering services contract for the rehabilitation of a Trinity Railway Express (TRE) timber pile trestle span bridge, which traverses Inwood Road in Dallas.
The firm's responsibilities include presenting repair options for the bridge structure, preparing plans and specifications, and developing cost estimates. The scope of the work encompasses structural design, geotechnical services, field and design survey, drainage and services during construction, CH2M officials said in a press release.
In addition, a critical aspect of the project is maintaining access to Inwood Road, which is a primary gateway into Dallas' Southwestern Medical District. More than 30,000 employees work in the district, where more than 2.2 million patients are treated each year.
"Our extensive experience with commuter-rail operations, bridge design, vehicular traffic maintenance, construction techniques and federal requirements will be invaluable to not only designing and constructing a successful project, but carefully maintaining operations while the bridge improvements are constructed," said Phil Yerby, CH2M's transportation director for Texas.
The bridge rehabilitation project is part of an overall plan to upgrade the TRE corridor. The plan will make way for frequent and reliable passenger-rail service, increased ridership, reduced congestion and improved freight capacity, CH2M officials said.
TRE is jointly owned and operated by DART and the Fort Worth Transportation Authority.
