The California High-Speed Rail Authority (CHSRA) has released the final environmental document for a more than 30-mile segment of high-speed rail line between Palmdale and Burbank, California.
The document is on track to be presented to CHSRA's board for consideration during a two-day board meeting to be held June 26-27, CHSRA officials said in a news release.
"With board approval, the project will have environmental clearance for 463 miles of the Phase 1 system between downtown San Francisco and downtown Los Angeles," said CHSRA CEO Brian Kelly.
The final environmental impact report/environmental impact statement includes analysis of all six build alternatives and a no-project alternative. The preferred alternative — a grade-separated, high-speed rail-only system — would run along State Route 14 for about 38 miles, CHSRA officials said.
Trains operating on the preferred alternative route would be underground through Acton, and much of the Angeles National Forest and San Gabriel Mountains National Monument. Tunneling through those regions would minimize impacts to communities and environmental resources, CHSRA officials said.
