The Chicago Transit Authority has awarded a $75.4 million contract to F.H. Paschen, S.N. Nielsen and Associates LLC to begin work on a major renovation project at the Racine Blue Line Station.
The work calls for an additional elevator and other accessibility improvements, CTA officials said in a press release. The project falls under the authority’s All Stations Accessibility Program, which aims to make the CTA system 100% accessible in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Built in 1958, the station will also receive a reconstructed main stationhouse with an elevator, upgrades to an auxiliary entrance and exit, an accessible ramp to the platform, new stairs and a platform extension, CTA officials said.
Crews also will improve the traction power system, build a power substation and replace equipment at the existing substation.
The project timeline will be announced later, CTA officials said. The project is funded through the Rebuild Illinois capital plan.
