CTA continues to test prototype rail cars
advertisement
Today, the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) will begin in-service testing of 5000-series prototype rail cars on the Brown Line. The agency also is testing the cars on the Orange Line; tests already have been completed on the Blue, Green and Red lines.
The CTA is trying to determine how the cars perform under normal operating conditions. The prototypes will be tested on all eight of the agency’s rail lines.
The cars feature security cameras, event recorder systems, door sensors, LED station indicator maps, regenerative braking systems designed to return braking energy to the third rail and alternating current propulsion systems.
