CTA contractor signs plastic-tie deal
advertisement
When Chicago Transit Authority’s Douglas Blue Line Reconstruction Project is complete in September 2005, several thousand plastic ties will support trains in both elevated and ballasted sections. Kiewit-Delgado, general contractor responsible for the project, April 22 signed a contract for U.S. Plastic Lumber Corp. to supply DuraTie® Composite railroad ties to Kiewit-Delgado and its designated subcontractors.
The ties are made of recycled plastic and fiberglass, and have a life expectancy of two to three times longer than wood, said Michael McCann, U.S. Plastic Lumber chief operating officer, in a prepared statement.
