CTA earns ISO 9001:2000 certificate for project development processes

Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) recently received an International Standardization Organization (ISO) 9001:2000 certificate of registration from Underwriters Laboratories, making the authority the eighth U.S. public agency to earn one.

The certification reflects on American National Standards Institute acknowledgement that CTA guidelines ensure the quality of the authority’s processes for project development, planning, design, and design and construction management for capital projects.

Projects include the rehabilitation under way on the Cermak (Douglas) branch of the Blue Line and the upcoming Brown Line capacity expansion.

ISO 9001 is a standard that emphasizes principals, goals and objectives that focus on meeting customer expectations and requirements.

To achieve ISO certification, an organization must demonstrate its ability to consistently provide a product that meets customer and applicable regulatory requirements, and its efforts to enhance customer satisfaction through the effective application of the system.
