CTA granted $1.25 million for Red, Purple lines
The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) will receive $1.25 million in funding through the Federal Transit Administration's Transit-Oriented Development Pilot Planning Program to continue improvements to its Red and Purple lines, federal and Chicago officials announced last week.
The funding will continue the agency’s efforts to modernize the two lines and ensure that CTA's "aging infrastructure can keep pace with growing demand for its services," said U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) in a press release.
The funding was made available through the Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century Act (MAP-21), a transportation bill passed by Congress in 2012.
In August, CTA received an additional $35 million in funding for the Red and Purple line improvement project through the FTA's new Core Capacity Program.
