Yesterday, the Chicago Transit Authority’s (CTA) board approved the final station rehabilitation contract for the Brown Line capacity expansion project. CTA contracted FHP Tectonics Corp. to reconstruct the Paulina, Southport, Wellington and Diversey stations.
Under a $66.9 million contract, the company will construct stationhouses, extend platforms, rehabilitate existing canopies, add lighting, and install fare-collection equipment and a public-address system. Construction is expected to last between 13 and 16 months for each station.
Scheduled to be completed in 2009, the Brown Line capacity expansion project calls for rehabilitating 18 stations, lengthening platforms, and upgrading or replacing traction power, signal and communication systems. Operating between downtown and the Northwest side, the Brown Line opened in 1900.
