Chicago Transit Authority Aug. 12 opened a temporary station to serve customers who typically would use Central Park and Kedzie stations while the stations are under reconstruction as part of CTA’s $482.6 million Cermak (Douglas) Blue Line Rehabilitation Project.



"The opening of this temporary station means we are one step closer to new, modernized facilities for our customers here in North Lawndale," said CTA President Frank Kruesi in remarks prepared for the opening ceremony.



Kruesi also announced that the project was proceeding on schedule and on budget. To date, nearly 500 caissons have been completed, 401 columns poured, and 173 pairs of steel spans of steel elevated structure replaced. Workers also have completed more than 90 percent of the foundation for the new 54th/Cermak station.
