The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) on June 25 marked the 10th anniversary of its Pink Line rail service. The line has provided 50 million rides since it opened, agency officials said in a press release. The route serves 11 stations between 54th and Cermak streets in Cicero, Ill.
The Pink Line's tracks were formerly the 54th/Cermak Blue Line and connected downtown Chicago to the Congress Blue Line at the Racine Blue Line station. When Pink Line service was established in 2006, CTA connected the former 54th/Cermak Blue Line to Chicago's Loop by restoring a then-unused section of track known as the Paulina Connector. In 2012, the CTA opened the Morgan Station to serve both Pink and Green line trains. The station filled a nearly 1.5-mile gap between the existing Clinton and Ashland stations and has contributed to "substantial residential and commercial development" over the years, agency officials said. "Ten years ago we launched Pink Line service with the goal of providing more access to rail service to customers on the city’s West Side," said CTA President Dorval Carter Jr. "Since then, the Pink Line has provided 50 million rides and we are proud of the important role it has served in connecting people, jobs and communities."
