The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) provided 6.33 million rides during the first week of October, which was the highest system ridership week since the COVID-19 pandemic began in March 2020.
The week included the two highest days of ridership on record since the pandemic, including Oct. 3 (1,053,000 rides) and Oct. 4 (1,056,000 rides), CTA officials said in a news release.
CTA also provided about 655,700 rides on Oct. 8, the Sunday of the 2023 Chicago Marathon, recording the highest Sunday ridership since 2020. Systemwide rail ridership rose 15% that day. The marathon itself was estimated to increase rail ridership by 174,000 rides compared to the prior Sunday.
In September, the CTA logged nearly 26 million rides, the highest ridership month since the pandemic. And so far this year, CTA's daily ridership has topped more than 1 million rides.
