The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) last week unveiled Refresh & Renew, an expanded and accelerated program that calls for upgrading nearly 90% of the agency's stations.

The effort is part of CTA's "When You’re Ready, We’re Ready" campaign to welcome back riders and attract new passengers, according to an agency press release.

Under Refresh & Renew, CTA will accelerate its existing station revitalization program with more than 125 stations scheduled to receive improvements in 2021.

Work performed will vary by location, but at a minimum each station will receive a deep clean power wash and repainting of surfaces.

Nearly a third of the stations will receive more extensive work, which could include upgraded LED lighting throughout, improved platform amenities — such as benches, trash bins and windbreaks — concrete repairs, updating or replacement of old or damaged signage and permanent repairs.
