advertisement
On Monday, the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) began testing its 5000-series prototype rail cars on the Purple Line.
The 10 cars are being tested as part of a year-long process before the agency gives final approval for a full order of cars.
The prototype cars offer a variety of new features and technologies, including seven networked security cameras, an event recorder system, sensitive door sensors, LED station indicator map, electronic destination signs and regenerative braking. The cars also are designed to provide more room for passengers.
