CTA three-peats ridership increase

It’s been three years since Michael Jordan led one Chicago team to three winning seasons in a row, but Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) recently wrapped up its own three-year-strong streak.
CTA Feb. 6 announced its elevated heavy-rail system and buses provided 8.6 million more rides in 2000 than they did in 1999.
Rail ridership pulled in a higher increase with 5.5 million more rides in year-to-year comparison, scoring 147.2 million rides in 2000. Bus ridership carried the team, logging 303.3 million rides including 1.2 million paratransit rides, but grew only 1 percent or 3.1 million more rides.
"Our efforts to improve service with added bus trips, better equipment and longer ‘L’ station hours are paying off," said CTA Chairman Valerie Jarrett in a prepared statement.
