Rail News: Passenger Rail
Soon, it’ll be easier for Chicago-area commuters to transfer between Northeast Illinois Regional Commuter Railroad Corp. (Metra) commuter trains and Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) trains and buses. CTA’s board recently approved an intergovernmental agreement with Metra to install CTA transit card vending machines at Metra’s Ogilvie Transportation Center and Millenium Station.
Once installed in late spring, passengers will be able to purchase and add value to CTA fare media at the Metra facilities.
“More than 90 percent of Metra customers begin or end their trips downtown,” said CTA President Frank Kruesi in a prepared statement. “This action will make it easier for those customers who choose to use CTA to continue their trips.”
The agreement will be renewed on an annual basis.
