The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) has finalized designs for the $280 million reconstruction of the 95th Street Terminal, the agency announced late last week.

The new designs retain primary elements from previous ones, including covered bus bays and pedestrian walkways, CTA officials said in a press release.

The station rebuild is aimed at expanding the terminal, which is one of the CTA's busiest. The terminal provides 24-hour Red Line rail service and accommodates more than 1,000 CTA and Pace bus trips on a typical weekday. The project will help improve the movement of train traffic in and out of the 98th Street yard and through the 8th Street Terminal, CTA officials said.

The new station is expected to be completed in 2018; the new south terminal, by 2017.
