The California Transportation Commission (CTC) late last month allocated $491 million to address transportation improvement needs, including $25 million in transit-rail projects in Los Angeles County.

The total allocation includes $273 million generated from the Senate Bill 1 Road Repair and Accountability Act, which calls for highway and bridge repair and improvements to California's mass transit, bicycle and pedestrian routes.

Funding awarded in LA County includes:

• $16.5 million for Metrolink's Southern California Optimized Rail Expansion (SCORE) project that calls for Burbank Junction speed improvements, installation of a new turnout, reconfiguration of Control Point Olive to accommodate the new crossover and signal modifications;
• $6.6 million for a SCORE project calling for construction and signal reconfiguration along the mainline between Control Point Burbank to Control Point Fletcher and replacing with new signals; and
• $1.5 million for a SCORE project calling for construction at Chatsworth Station, including grade crossings, pedestrian improvements and the rehabilitation of main track.
