Last month, BART and San Francisco Municipal Railway officials joined San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown and State Assemblyman Kevin Shelley in announced the award of $6 million in state funds for Phase I of the Balboa Park BART Station Expansion Project.

Phase I includes reconfiguring existing faregates, adding additional ones and installing BART ticket vending machines.

Expansion plans include a new entrance, additional stairway, escalator, elevator and station agent booth.

The $6 million in funds are incorporated in "trailer" bills introduced by State Assemblyman Tom Torlakson and State Senator Deborah Ortiz.
