California panel OKs $50 million to double track part of LOSSAN rail route

The California Transportation Commission (CTC) has allocated nearly $50 million to the San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG) to double-track the San Diego County segment of the Los Angeles-San Diego-San Luis Obispo (LOSSAN) passenger-rail corridor.
The funds also will pay for bridge replacement and signal improvements along the segment, according to a California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) news release.
The work is part of the North Coast Corridor Project, a series of Interstate 5 improvements in San Diego County that are being carried out by Caltrans' 11th district and SANDAG.
Meanwhile, the CTC also allotted $200,000 to the Capitol Corridor Joint Powers Authority to install two additional wayside power cabinets at the Oakland Maintenance Facility.
Both awards were part of a $217 million package from the CTC.
