Yesterday, the Caltrain board approved an agreement with the California High Speed Rail Authority to establish an initial organizational framework. The agencies will partner to plan, design and construct infrastructure improvements along Caltrain's corridor to accommodate both high-speed and commuter-rail service needs.

The agencies plan to phase in high-speed rail service along the Caltrain corridor. The agreement "gives Caltrain a seat at the table and puts a local face on a state project," Caltrain officials said in a press release.
