Caltrain backs transportation ballot measures

With the Nov. 7 elections just around the corner, transit agencies are voicing support for ballot measures that would provide capital funds. Count Caltrain among them.

Caltrain officials favor Propositions 1A and 1B, which will appear on the California state ballot next month. The first measure proposes to protect Proposition 42 funding, requiring the state motor vehicle fuel sales tax be used only for transportation improvements. A $19.9 billion bond measure, Proposition 1B proposes to help the state improve highways, freeways and local roads, reduce air pollution and improve port security.

The bills would provide Caltrain about $47 million for capital projects, such as electrifying the commuter-rail corridor, acquiring new passenger cars and rebuilding bridges.
