Caltrain begins early work on San Bruno grade separation
advertisement
Last week, Caltrain launched construction on a one-mile grade separation project in San Bruno, Calif.
The project calls for elevating commuter-rail tracks above three existing at-grade crossings at San Bruno, San Mateo and Angus avenues, as well as building a new elevated station between San Bruno and San Mateo avenues to replace the existing Sylvan Avenue station.
In addition, Caltrain plans to build three pedestrian underpasses, install elevators at stations, improve streets and sidewalks, complete track and signal work, and relocate utilities.
The agency currently is conducting preliminary construction work. Construction on the actual grade separation and stations is scheduled to begin in December 2011 and be complete by fall 2012.
The $147 million project is being funded through $85.6 million in local Measure A sales tax dollars, $54.8 million in state funds and $6.6 million in federal funds.
