Caltrain’s board yesterday extended the agency’s commuter-rail operating contract with TransitAmerica Services Inc. (TASI) through June 30, 2027.

The current term of the agreement is set to expire June 30, 2022.

The contract extension will enable TASI to support Caltrain’s plans to electrify its Peninsula Corridor, Caltrain officials said in a press release.

The board originally awarded TASI a five-year base operating contract in 2011. An option for five one-year extensions were executed in 2017.

Since then, TASI has provided rail operations, maintenance and support services that include administration/safety; operations and dispatch; maintenance of equipment, track, communications and signals, and stations; construction support; and state of good repair work.

The rail operator has demonstrated improvement in on-time performance, monthly mechanical delays and customer satisfaction, Caltrain officials said.
