Caltrain proposes new budget-reduction measures

Last month, Caltrain officials proposed a series of measures aimed at addressing a $10.1 million FY2010 budget deficit, such as raising base fares and ticket prices, hiking parking fees, and eliminating all weekend and Gilroy service. Now, the agency is proposing a modified budget recommendation that calls for reducing weekday mid-day service to one-hour headways, increasing the Go Pass price from two to three zones, and raising parking fees to $3 a day and $30 a month.

Caltrain's staff has recommended the agency no longer consider all other cost-cutting proposals. The revised adjustments would provide $2.7 million in additional revenue and cost savings. Caltrain anticipates being able to present a balanced FY2010 budget, the agency said.
