Caltrain slates meetings on electrification project

Caltrain this week will host community meetings to share information on its electrification project.

The first will take place tomorrow in Redwood City, California. Caltrain staff will be on hand to discuss how the electrification project will affect the city and the North Fair Oaks neighborhood.

Construction is slated to begin in the area in the next three months. The work will include tree pruning and removal, utility relocation, and signal and communication equipment inspection, Caltrain officials said in a press release.

The commuter railroad is working on a project to electrify its corridor between San Francisco and San Jose, California. The railroad also is acquiring new high-performance electric trains to deliver faster, more frequent service.

Caltrain will hold a second meeting on Thursday in South San Francisco, California. In addition to providing information on the electrification project, that event will include a discussion of the South San Francisco Station improvement project.

The latter project calls for performing track and signal work near the station, and building a new 700-foot center boarding platform and pedestrian underpass.

Construction on the station is slated to begin in November.

Caltrain broke ground on its electrification project in July.
