Caltrain to begin track and roadbed work
advertisement
Peninsula Corridor Joint Powers Board is adjusting Caltrain service between Gilroy and San Jose from late October to early December to enable Union Pacific Railroad, which owns the tracks between Caltrain’s Tamien and Gilroy stations, to conduct some extensive and much-needed maintenance.
UP workers plan to replace a third of the ties, add new ballast and replace wooden grade crossings with concrete plank surfaces — the type of work that’s needed only once every 20 or 30 years.
Passengers on four roundtrip trains will be affected during the five-week project, which is expected to conclude Dec. 3.
