Caltrain will cut fares 50% during April and resume regular weekday service today.
The price reduction applies to all fares except the Go Pass. Service will also be expanded to support transportation to San Francisco Giants games as baseball season begins. The transit agency’s regular weekday service consists of a “record-high” 104-train schedule, Caltrain officials said in a press release.
Service was reduced in early March to accommodate Caltrain’s electrification signal work in San Mateo and Burlingame, California, but a train collided with on-track equipment March 10, further delaying the project to May. The agency will again reduce train levels between May 2 and May 20 when workers return to the project, with full service restored May 23, officials said.
“By reducing our fares for the month of April, we can reward our existing customers for their loyalty and encourage the next generation of public transportation riders to use Caltrain for their traveling needs,” said Caltrain Acting Executive Director Michelle Bouchard.
