Caltrain to implement new fare structure
advertisement
Caltrain’s board recently approved a more equitable fare structure and the use of a full proof-of-payment system.
The fare structure will be reduced from nine zones to six, and validity periods, from 30 days to four hours; round-trip tickets and weekend passes will be replaced with a day pass; the youth discount for passengers between 5- and 11-years old will be expanded to 5- and 17-year-olds; and a senior/disabled/youth 10-ride ticket will be offered.
Fare structure changes go into effect Sept. 22.
The agency also plans to complete its full proof-of-payment system transition, which requires passengers to purchase tickets prior to boarding the train or receiving a citation and fine.
