Rail News: Passenger Rail

Caltrain to increase fare, parking fees

Caltrain’s board recently approved a series of fare and parking-fee increases that will go into effect July 1.

Base fares will increase from $2.50 to $2.75; day passes, from $5.00 to $5.50; and monthly passes, from $66.25 to $73.00.

In addition, as a result of a San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency price hike that goes into effect July 1, the price of a Caltrain-Plus-Muni pass will increase by $2 to $57, Caltrain officials said in a prepared statement.

The price hikes are necessary to fund the rail line’s operating costs, officials said. Fares cover about 44 percent of the cost to provide Caltrain service.
