Caltrain yesterday announced that its new headquarters will be located in Millbrae, California.

Caltrain, which now shares a headquarters with the San Mateo County Transit District (SamTrans) in San Carlos, California, will continue to co-locate with SamTrans at its new headquarters at the Gateway development at Millbrae Station, according to a Caltrain press release.

After SamTrans announced in March that it would move out of its San Carlos headquarters, Caltrain officials began exploring options to lease or purchase office space near a Caltrain station. Caltrain's board determined that the new Millbrae office best met the needs of the commuter railroad, which operates in the Santa Clara Valley and San Francisco Peninsula.

Caltrain will be occupy 26,500 square feet of SamTrans' new 180,000-square-foot headquarters. Caltrain has agreed to a 10-year lease that will begin when SamTrans begins occupying the space, with two five-year options to extend the lease. A dollar value of the lease was not mentioned in the press release.

SamTrans acquired the building in December 2023 through a lease-to-purchase agreement at a cost of $126 million.
