Caltrain's ticket prices to rise for third time in two years

On April 2, Caltrain will raise fares by 25 cents per zone traveled — the agency’s third fare hike in two years.

One-zone, one-way passes will increase to $2.25; day passes, to $4.50; 10-ride passes, to $19.25; and monthly passes, to $59.75. Fares will increase for each additional zone traveled.

The fare hike will help set off rising operating costs, including fuel expenses, which are projected to rise at least 20 percent in fiscal-year 2007, Caltrain said.

In FY2006, the agency implemented two fare increases: a 17.5 percent hike in July 2005 and a 5.6 percent increase in January 2006.
