Vancouver SkyTrain operator TransLink and Canadian federal and local governments have announced a joint investment of $34.9 million to support a rail maintenance project for SkyTrain.
The funds will pay for the replacement of running rail and rail pads for the Expo SkyTrain Line over the next four years, starting this year, Infrastructure Canada officials said in a press release. The project calls for replacing 12.5 miles of running rail and 24,000 rail pads.
Replacing the running rail and rail pads will help improve SkyTrain service and reduce noise levels for communities located near the line, Infrastructure Canada officials said.
TransLink and the Canadian government are each paying 50% of the cost, or CA$17,498,000. Government funds come from the public transit infrastructure stream of the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program.
