Canadian rail passengers will have new traveling options beginning Oct. 28, thanks to an interline agreement signed Oct. 15 between VIA Rail Canada Inc. and Greater Toronto Transit Authority (GO Transit).



The agreement enables VIA Rail, a Crown corporation and Canada’s national passenger rail service, and GO Transit, the Toronto area’s commuter rail network, to carry each other’s passengers between shared stations. The passenger rail system recently introduced a VIA/GO pass, which when combined with a GO ticket, enables the holder to travel on VIA train between Toronto’s Union Station and other shared stations at Aldershot, Brampton, Georgetown, Oakville and Oshawa.



"Initiatives such as this increase the attractiveness of rail service to commuters, get more people into public transport and take more cars off the highways," said Canada’s Transport Minister David Collenette in a prepared statement.
