Caterpillar Sept. 6 announced that its Germany-based dealer, Zeppelin Baumaschinen GmbH, signed a $11.7 million contract with VOSSLOH Schienenfahrzeugtechnik GmbH (VSFT) to supply 59 Cat 3512B locomotive engines to Swiss Federal Railways, with an option for 57 more.
The railroad plans to use 40 of the units for its freight division, 14 for shunting at different locations along a new line between Mattstetten and Rothrist, and five to replace locomotive engines currently in passenger rail use.
Zeppelin plans to deliver the first engine to Vossloh in February 2003 and continue deliveries until 2005.
