Chicago's Metra adds parking at two stations

Northeast Illinois Regional Commuter Railroad Corp. (Metra) recently opened new parking facilities at the Gresham and 103rd Street-Washington Heights stations on the Rock Island District.

The agency added a 162-space parking at the Gresham station. Commuters who board Metra trains at the nearby Brainert and 95th Street stations now might travel from Gresham.

Metra also built a 150-space lot at the 103rd Street-Washington Heights station, replacing a gravel lot.

The additional parking will help relieve congested lots at nearby Beverly Branch stations and help reduce congestion during the Dan Ryan branch reconstruction project, Metra officials believe.

The projects were funded by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
