Chicago's RTA to set aside funds for additional Metra service
advertisement
Chicago's Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) recently approved funding to provide additional weekend service on the Northeast Illinois Regional Commuter Railroad Corp.'s (Metra) SouthWest Service line.
Metra has proposed adding three round trips each Saturday between Manhattan and Chicago Union Station, beginning in March 2009.
If the authority finalizes the funding in its 2009 budget, Metra will receive $340,000 through RTA's Innovation, Coordination and Enhancement program, which funds operating and capital projects designed to improve public transportation quality and delivery. Metra will match the grant amount to provide the added service.
