Chilean transit operator inks Alstom contract

Metro SA, which operates Santiago, Chile’s metro, Nov. 2 signed a $111 million contract with Alstom Transport to ease passenger congestion and accommodate extensions on lines 5 and 2.
Metro SA would receive 10 eight-car trains, one seven-car trainset, and five trailer cars to add to existing trainsets, designed with walkthrough gangways. Also, Alstom would maintain the new trainsets for two years.
Delivery is slated to begin in spring 2002 and continue at one train monthly.
