Eleven San Francisco Bay area residents have been appointed to a new citizens review board that will provide oversight of the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) police department.
The review board's members, which will hold their first meeting on March 21, were selected from a pool of 40 candidates and will report directly to BART’s board, BART officials said in a prepared statement.
The review board's duties will include: reviewing, recommending and monitoring police policies, procedures and practices; reviewing citizen allegations of on-duty police misconduct; participating in recommendations of disciplinary actions; meeting periodically with BART police associations; and community outreach.
BART's board also is in the final stages of hiring a police auditor.
