Cleveland RTA plans track rehabilitation project

Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority plans to shut down all rail service east of Tower City at 7 p.m. each week night from Sept. 16 until mid-April for a complete rehabilitation of the rail system.

The project will affect RTA’s Red, Blue and Green lines, although the shut-down does not include the Waterfront Line or the Red Line from Tower City to Hopkins Airport. And RTA plans to schedule service for special events. For example, service to the Cleveland Browns home football games will be affected.

Work includes rehabilitation of 2.56 track miles between Tower City and E. 55th Street, where tracks are shared by light and heavy rail. In June, RTA’s board awarded Delta Railroad Construction Inc. a $6.6 million contract to perform the work.

Meanwhile, RTA plans to use shuttle bus service to serve affected passengers.
