The Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (GCRTA) on April 1 will begin construction on the East 79th Street Station.
The $10 million project calls for redesigning the Red Line station to include ramps and stairs, an upgraded pedestrian track crossing and a new entry plaza.
The East 79th Street Station is the last key station to be rebuilt in compliance with the federal American’s With Disabilities Act, GCRTA officials said in a press release.
Lead contractor Panzica Construction Co. also will replace existing station platforms with new fiberglass reinforced plastic long enough to accommodate three-car trains, and replace existing track.
Additionally, the project will include upgraded lighting, signage, cameras and emergency call boxes.
