Last week, Rep. Ron Klein (D-Fla.) met with a senior Florida East Coast Railway (FECR) official to help secure a portion of the regional's tracks for the South Florida Regional Transportation Authority's Tri-Rail service.

By expanding Tri-Rail service to FECR tracks, the agency could offer commuter-rail service down the state's east coast to communities such as Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Boca Raton and West Palm Beach.

Klein urged FECR to "negotiate in good faith and make the project a top priority," according to a press release. Klein also aims to include statutory language in the upcoming surface transportation authorization bill that would enable the state to pursue federal funds for the project.
